Course Description

This gardening series is designed for both those who are new to the native plant scene as well as those who have begun exploring it. Some terminology is used widely across the gardening world, while some is used more prevalently in the native plant world. We'll explore some of these terms and phrases. Lets discuss natives, nativars, exotics, invasives along with the why and how of native plants. Understanding the when and how of seed dispersal makes collection more accessible. There will be a hands-on seed harvesting, cleaning and storing as well as a make and take Winter Sowing workshop. We'll wrap up with a look at steps you can take for conservation planning for your property, resources available, and what your conservation goals and objectives may look like.

March 14, 2026, March 21, 2026 and March 28, 2026.

Supplies: Students should bring an empty, rinsed, 1-gallon transparent jug (such as a milk or water jug) with 6–8 small drainage holes in the bottom to the second session.

The holes should be made in the bottom of the jug to allow for drainage. Snow and rain will enter through the top opening where the cap or lid would normally go.
