Course Description

This course is designed for someone who has little or no experience operating a motorcycle, and it focuses on the development of basic riding skills: clutch and throttle coordination, straight-line riding, braking, turning, and shifting. Training motorcycles are provided. Privately owned motorcycles are NOT permitted. Successful completion results in a certificate that waives the written knowledge test and riding-skill test, which would otherwise be administered by the Secretary of State and third-party testing agency, respectively. Class meets Friday, 6 pm to 8 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 8 am to 8 pm. You need to be available during the 12-hour period, but are not expected to be on site the entire time. Group A will ride in the morning, and Group B will ride in the afternoon. You will be assigned the first night of class. Instruction consists of approximately 16 total hours: 5 hours of online; preparation to be completed prior to your class start date and 11 hours of hands on training, activities and evaluation. Students must provide their own safety gear and supplies; this includes a driver's license, DOT-compliant helmet, eye protection, long-sleeved jacket or long-sleeved shirt, full-fingered gloves, pants, boots that cover the ankle and have a hard sole, rain gear, cold-weather gear, writing utensil, water, and snacks. Students aged 15-17 are permitted to take this course if they have a graduated driver's license; however, a parent or legal guardian must accompany them on the first day of class to sign the course waiver. Prerequisite: The ability to ride a bicycle and have a valid email address on file with the College. Students must complete the MSF ePackage & eCourse (online component) and bring the certificate of completion to the first in-person session. The link to the eCourse will be distributed by the College via email at least 1 week prior to the start date of your class.
